Move-in Day!

So today is my first time writing for my blog. Feels odd. Like a journal for the world...we'll see how this goes. See I'm supposed to be writing in an actual journal for back home. One of the requirements to study abroad was that we have to document our experiences and how this experience is different from our own culture and everyday life. Well I started that journal and 5 minutes in my hand began to hurt so here I am with my own blog. Although, due to the fact that my computer is shit here, I may have to resort back to the ol' pen and paper. (and that last sentence is the end of me capitalizing by the way and i apologize in advance for the informality of this blog).

i would have written earlier but havent much felt like it i guess. settling in here and getting used to this transition has taken me longer than expected. i have yet to speak to my dad and have only spoken to my mom and sis once. needless to say i miss them and getting in touch with people back home is harder than i thought. anyway, i guess now i will start my official journal and fill you all in on whats happened so far.

so...i'm in ireland! crazy i know. i felt as though it was something that was exciting but only something to talk about. more of a conversation starter if you will. but as my days in florence began to grow smaller i started to feel anxious. however, after some reassurance from my parents and friends i was fine. so the day came and jen drove me to the airport. an emotional drive to say the least. florence was easily the best 3 and half years of my life. but all our time at fmu has to eventually come to an end and we must move on. which brings me back to ireland. my first time out of the states and i found the plane ride and time change to be brutal. my friend andy from school (was on the golf team at fmu and lives near dublin) picked me up from the airport. my first thoughts...why are the cars and car parks so tiny??? i nearly had to carry my luggage over my head to get between cars. then there was my first time in a car here. it only took about 30 times before i stopped freaking out thinking andy was driving or turning in the wrong lane or being confused why everyone was in the passenger seat.

we came out to maynooth to drop off our things and get into our apts and realized something else that was strange about this country. nothing opens earlier than 9 or 10am and everything closes at 4 or 5pm. oh then of course there's the one or two hour break in between there for lunch. haha. the irish know what they're doing thats for sure. anyway we were too early so andy took this time to drive us around and help us get familiar. we picked up most things we needed for the apt and went back to his home to relax for a while. later that night we came back and set up everything. this is my first time living on campus at any university so i made the best attempt i could to try to make this cold, white, box of a room look and feel "homey". when i get my camera from mom i'll upload a pic. the anticipation is killing you i'm sure.

well thats all for this blog i guess. my next one will update on all that has happened since move-in day and it is sure to be more exciting than this...but dont hold me to it.
